Advanced Sales Tax feature
IMPORTANT! Please note that the following configurations are shared by all franchises in the system. Please do not make changes here unless you know what you are doing. If you have any questions, please reach out to support or you can also test your changes in a test site. Wrong configurations here can have a major impact on how sales tax is collected/not collected.
The Advanced Sales Tax feature is turned on by headquarters. This feature allows companies to set separate tax rates for each State, County, City, Postal Code and/or Postal Code Suffix in their area.
- Adding State, County, City, Postal Code and/or Postal Code Suffix tax rates.
- Address Component Criteria
- Test Sales Tax Computation
1. Adding State, County, City, Postal Code and/or Postal Code Suffix tax rates.
1.a. Clicking the +Add button will open up a model similar to the one below letting you add a new state, county, city, postal code and suffix. Make sure your spelling is accurate. If the spelling is off the tax rate will default to the zone tax rate. The system will automatically add the word "County" after the county name when adding a new county.
1.b. You can use the filters to filter through states, counties, cities, postal codes, and suffixes that you have added.
1.c. Clicking the arrow will expand or collapse the view of any sub tax areas you have added down to the postal code suffix.
1.d. Clicking on the name will open up a model similar to the picture below where you can add the tax amount for that specific area. The State 'All Services Taxable' checkbox lets you choose if all services in that state are taxable.
1.e. The dollar sign shows on the State if you checked 'All Services Taxable' in the Edit State modal above.
1.f. Displays the tax rate that was set for that area.
1.g. Opens a model where you can upload a list of areas instead of adding them one by one.
1.h. Deletes area.
2. Address Component Criteria
Here you can select what area or address component you want to match when determining the tax rate. The address must match spelling for every criteria you check below. If the spelling is incorrect the tax rate will default to the zone tax rate.
3. Test Sales Tax Computation
Here you can test your tax settings. Enter an address with the area or address components you would like to test.
Click Test Tax Rate.
You should get information at the bottom that shows what your total tax rate will be, what each area tax rate was that added up to the total and reasons why.
Please note that the total tax rate will be the sum of each part (e.g. State Tax Rate + County Tax Rate + City Tax Rate)”
