1. Find the Client Record to be Merged
First, navigate to the client screen of the client you want to merge.
Since you are merging two clients together, it doesn't matter which one you pick in the search bar.
2. Merging Clients
To merge clients, click on the gear and select Merge Clients.
3. Search for the Duplicate
You will be directed to the Merge Client screen.
- Enter the name, email, or phone number of the client you would like to merge.
- Select their account from the drop-down list that appears.
4. Select Merge Direction
This will populate the window with the
- Original on the left side,
- the Duplicate on the right side,
- and the Result at the bottom.
- Use the arrow to switch which client to merge into. The resulting client from this merge will use the client-level attributes from this client. The merge direction may be determined automatically if there are linked customers in Quickbooks.
5. Finalize Merge
- Uncheck the information that is duplicate.
- Verify that you are getting the desired results. What displays in this box is what will be kept.
- Click Merge. The client records have now been merged together. If both clients are linked to active customers in your accounting software, you will get a message saying that a finance admin needs to merge the customers in the accounting software before proceeding. They can do that by following the steps for merging found here for QuickBooks and here for NetSuite. Once that is complete, you will be able to merge the clients here.
